CHEPA seminar: Confounding adjustment within non-randomized economic evaluations – now in 3D

The next CHEPA seminar will be presented at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 9 by Dr. Jason Robert Guertin, Associate Professor in Economic Evaluation of Health Technologies at Université Laval, on the topic  “Confounding adjustment within non-randomized economic evaluations – now in 3D.”

Confounding adjustment is an important component of all non-randomized studies. Unfortunately, many studies fail to account for confounding when analyzing their study results. This seminar will aim to illustrate how this omission can impact the resulting incremental cost-effectiveness ratios one would obtain under such circumstances.

Guertin is also Director of the short master-level program in Economic Evaluation of Health Technologies and a Researcher at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval research center and Université Laval’s Tissue Engineering Laboratory (LOEX). His research program, supported via an FRQS Research Scholar award (2023-2027), aims to support the economic evaluation of various regenerative medicine technologies using real-world cost-effectiveness analyses.

Guertin was a McMaster post-doctoral fellow under Jean-Éric Tarride’s supervision (2015-2016) and the recipient of the Bernie O’Brien Postdoctoral Award in 2015. He is the 2024 inaugural recipient of the Canada’s Drug Agency’s Dr. Murray Krahn Award for a Rising Star in Health Economics.
