CHEPA member Elizabeth Alvarez will present the final CHEPA seminar of this academic year on Weds. May 4 at 12:30 pm on the topic: “COVID-19 policies and epidemiology: Learning from international perspectives.”

Dr. Alvarez is a family/public health physician; an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact (HEI) at McMaster University, and a member of the COVID-19 Policies and Epidemiology International Working Group.

Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), such as public policies, have been the mainstay in the fight against COVID-19 over the last couple of years. The effectiveness of physical distancing policies in different contexts is not known and many factors play a role in the epidemiology of COVID-19. The International COVID-19 Policies and Epidemiology Working Group formed to study which social distancing policies work, and where.

This seminar will discuss the work of the COVID-19 Policies and Epidemiology Working Group, its findings, lessons learned, and ongoing efforts to inform future emerging infectious disease pandemics.
